As a woman entrepreneur it is easy to wish for success and all of the opportunities you need to realize that success. Guess what ladies? You need to work to make those opportunities and success happen.
I just did a segment on NBC morning news and had a meeting at Hearst. Those are dreams come true, but I worked for them. I met an amazing women in New York and discussed my theories on women and our fear of failure. We talked about the fact that failures are opportunities in disguise. This conversation led to the woman asking for a pitch to share with a friend who is a news anchor.
I wrote that pitch as soon as I got on the train and emailed it to her. I also followed up to ensure she received it and sent it to the news anchor. The result? The opportunity to talk about Elegant Entrepreneur on national television. It wasn’t luck, it was hard work and follow-through.
The Hearst meeting, absolutely a dream come true. I had Alicia Key’s Empire State of Mind playing in my head as I walked into Hearst Tower. Did that meeting magically happen? No. A fellow woman CEO made an introduction after I asked. Was it scary to ask? Yes. Was the outcome worth the risk? Absolutely. If someone has a contact that can help you, ask for the connection. It’s up to you to make your dreams happen.
