The definition of ambitious is: having or showing a strong desire and determination to succeed. Why then does it sometimes carry a negative connotation for women? I do not believe there is anything wrong with being ambitious. When I hear, “She’s an ambitious woman.” it sounds like I’m about to meet someone I would be friends with, not someone to talk poorly about.
Tory Burch recently launched the #EmbraceAmbition campaign, and I am totally on board. It is important for women to know what they define as success, and to have a strong desire and determination to succeed at achieving that goal. How can you be a successful woman entrepreneur without being ambitious?
I put my money where my mouth is and purchased the #EmbraceAmbition bracelet (in red of course). It’s a daily reminder that I am ambitious, and I am a role model for ambitious girls and women. I love that the proceeds fund The Tory Burch Foundation, which is a program that empowers women entrepreneurs through training, funding, and connections. Hats off to Tory, a female founder not afraid to make waves for ambitious women around the world.
If you’d like to purchase a bracelet and proudly proclaim yourself as an ambitious women, here’s the link. Below is the pledge for ambitious women.
Proudly articulate my ambition. Not hide it.
Defend women who are criticized for being ambitious.
Dream big. Not justify my dreams.
Help all women to embrace their ambition.
