It’s Female Founder Friday and I can’t wait to introduce you to woman entrepreneur, Shinjini Das! Shinjini, The Go-Getter Girl!, is the founder and CEO of The Das Media Group, a full-scale digital content creation marketing house, global millennial influencer, strategic trilingual television personality, keynote speaker, impact-driven industrial engineer, and Huffington Post contributor. She considers it an authentic privilege to impact her global audiences, share her thoughts on broadening access to global girls’ education with INC. Magazine, and was profiled in FORBES Magazine as a 24-year-old American CEO. Shinjini was honored to have been invited to moderate a panel at the 2016 Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations Headquarters in recognition as a Global Hero for her internationally recognized advocacy work to empower women. Talk about a powerhouse right?!
Shinjini founded her company in her 20’s, so if you are a millennial woman with a business idea, especially around a media company… don’t miss Shinjini’s answers to my questions below.
What inspired you to create your company?
There was a void in the marketplace of a media company which connects globally-recognized brands and small businesses with their target audiences in a manner which felt authentic, genuine, exciting, engaging, relevant, and most importantly, natural. Unsurprisingly, the natural preferred medium to generate sales, media mentions, and ultimately, ROI is more hard sales driven, but I am building my company to be a conduit for a softer approach, in that we will supply a stream of engaging, relevant, and exciting content, so exciting in fact that individuals will be riveted and compelled to engage the brand to meet their needs in the future. This is a very exciting time to be a female founder in the incredibly cut-throat and ever evolving world of media, and I am excited to impact the world with the continued growth of my company.
What was your biggest obstacle and failure in going from idea to business?
The biggest obstacle, without a doubt, was identifying a tangible need in the marketplace to fill with my expertise, service, soon product offerings, and vision. Every successful company adheres to a value proposition, but it is critical to validate that value proposition to ensure that the market truly is in demand of what your company offers. So the product-market fit phase, I would say, was the most challenging, in evaluating the true needs of the media market.
An initial failure of going to market was being keen to offer a wide variety of services for my clientele, after which I soon realized that the companies which are the most successful have a niche area of expertise, they are not the companies which advertise they will take on any project regardless of the area of expertise. I quickly honed in on my specific competitive advantage which is very personalized content creation for my audiences, and the company has experienced an overwhelmingly positive response.
I am extraordinarily grateful for the response to the digital branding as well as content creation services we offer, as well as client reviews of work products thus far! Looking towards the future, I will continue to build the ethos of the company into a very specific defined set of areas of expertise, as well as, build out my team in the near future. In addition, as The Go-Getter Girl!, I have a burgeoning personal brand which has exploded in growth over the past two years, and which I am excited to continue building. Please share your best piece of advice for aspiring female founders.
Define an unique and differentiated value proposition for your business, and understand that as the founder, you must embody those very same values and mission statement which define your company. Revel in your feminine powers and recognize that you are positioned to be wildly successful as a female entrepreneur because of your innate femininity. I have purposefully created my brand on the image of a very feminine woman who is also a fierce business leader, so you can be all of that and more, my go-getter girl!

“Girl On Fire” by Alicia Keys’ because it epitomizes my brand as well as the story of go-getter girls around the world! We are together girls on fire in life and in business on a mission to write some of the greatest stories ever written! The future is female!
